The former Vidi player, who is preparing for the World Cup qualifiers with the national team, spent a short time in Székesfehérvár with the national team's permission.
At the ceremonial assembly on the 20th August, our team's former outstanding player, Loic Nego, received a prestigious award, but was unable to accept it in person at the time.
In 2025, Hungarian national team footballer and former Videoton favorite Nego was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen in recognition of his achievements. Among our team's players, Roland Juhász received this honor in 2019, followed by Nemanja Nikolics in 2023.
Loic Nego signed with Videoton FC in the summer of 2015. After two second-place finishes, he celebrated a championship title in the 2017/2018 season. In 2018, he played a key role in helping Vidi reach the Europa League group stage. His spectacular goal against Chelsea in the Europa League was voted by fans as the most beautiful Vidi goal of the past decade. In the following years, he won two more league silver medals and one bronze medal. The player, who is comfortable playing on the right side, took the Hungarian citizenship oath on February 14, 2019, participated in the 2021 and 2024 European Championships, and has been a member of the Hungarian national team ever since. In the summer of 2023, he transferred from Vidi to Le Havre in France.
On Tuesday afternoon, our former footballer, who is preparing for the World Cup qualifiers with the national team, traveled to Székesfehérvár with the national team's permission and received the award in person from Mayor Dr. András Cser-Palkovics in the small council chamber of the City Hall. The location was not unfamiliar to Loic, as he celebrated the championship title in 2018 and the cup victory in 2019 in the same place with the team and the mayor of the city.
After receiving the award, Loic revealed that he has very fond memories of Vidi and Székesfehérvár, and as he walked through the city center this afternoon, many wonderful memories from his time at Vidi came flooding back. He added that he keeps track of Vidi's performance, regrets the current situation, but is very confident that the club will soon return to where it belongs—among the best.
In closing, Dr. András Cser-Palkovics asked Loic to pass on his congratulations to Dominik Szoboszlai, who was born in Székesfehérvár, as he recently scored a spectacular free kick goal against Arsenal. The mayor concluded his speech by saying that he hoped "Szobi" would score many more goals like this for the national team and wished the Hungarian national team every success in the World Cup qualifiers.
